3 months. Oops. With COVID-19, it's been a bit of a strange few months. I haven't left the house too much aside from grocery shopping and a trip to visit family (we stayed sanitary, no judgements). Along with hundreds, if not thousands, of others I was officially laid off which gives me an opportunity to get out of Hospitality for the time being and find something else that I might enjoy and involves less yelling.
I've thought about going into teaching since I was in High School and now that I am not tethered to the Hospitality Industry I think I finally have an opportunity to make the leap. I've switched my major and have started some certificate programs online to fill my days. Ideally I wouldn't have to find meaningless work not in my field but once the stimulus runs out, I think it'll have to happen.
Luckily, being a teacher means I still have a desk so I can probably just divert this blog to Behind a Different Type of Desk. That could be more interesting as a newcomer. We'll see how the degree and job hunt go and go from there. It will be interesting to see how the education field is after COVID what with social distancing, face masks, etc. Hospitality will be changed forever now. Several major companies have already started new cleaning standards that are apparently here to stay so I wonder how much those cleaning standards will trickle down to smaller companies and other industries. We'll see, I guess.
I guess this'll be it for today but I'll try to come back more often. Stay safe out there!
I have nearly a decade of experience in hospitality across the country. With this experience comes some stories to tell and advice to give.
